Welcome to the Voice of Sam.

Sam A. Mowry has a rich and flexible voice. He’s the voice of God to the voice of dogs (and many other creatures in between). 15 years as a voice over artist, 25 years as a stage and on camera actor and an award winning Audio Drama producer/director/actor means Sam brings a wide variety of experience to your project.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Sam moved across the country before settling in Portland, OR in 1979. A professional actor and director for the last 29 years, currently Sam is the Founder and Director of the Willamette Radio Workshop, an award winning Audio Theater company.

Sam has produced dozens of independent productions on stage. Founder and director of the Heart Theater (notable productions include, The White Devil and The Trial) and The Shakespeare Martyr Complex, (Christmas Carol, Satan’s Fall, The Yellow Wallpaper). Some representative stage roles from over 100 options, Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, Lennie in Of Mice and Men, Macbeth, Edward II, James Leeds in Children of a Lesser God, Clark in Short Eyes, Petruchio in Taming of the Shrew, Andrew Wyke in Sleuth, Daniel Webster in The Devil and Daniel Webster, Dr. Astrov in Uncle Vanya, Shere Kahn in The Jungle Book, Dr. Stockman in An Enemy of the People and Richard in The Lion in Winter.

A much sought after voiceover actor, Sam has worked with a variety of companies including; Intel, The Discovery Channel, OMSI, Addidas, Nike, Frieghtliner, The Steinbeck Center and The Oakland A’s for commercial and industrial projects.

Other voiceover avenues traveled include creating the voice of the HORNED AVENGER for Flying Rhino Productions. HA is an action adventure show where the Super Hero, with his trusty sidekick BLT (yes he is a pig) and their friend Alice, defeat evil using the power of “outside the box” thinking and amazing creavtive skills. Sam voiced the titular character in Dry Smoke and Whispers Holodio Theater's new series on XM Radio, Shadow Man. For Ollin Productions he narrates AFTERHELL , a series available on CD’s and as podcasts. The Lewis and Clark Centennial was a busy year, portraying Wm. Clark in Oregon Public Broadcasting’s radio series “The Unfinished Journey” and “The Undiscovered Explorer: Imagining York” for Public Radio International and heard across the country. Sam also narrated the Discovery Channel film, In Search of Lewis and Clark.

For the Internet, Sam recently played Brutus, Caliban and Macbeth for Speak- The-Speech, an Internet audio project that will eventually provide new versions of all Shakespeare’s plays free of charge over the World Wide Web. The Willamette Radio Workshop is helping to produce several projects for STS.

Personally, Sam is married to teacher, Director and playwright Cynthia McGean with whom he has collaborated on numerous occasions. His son Atticus Welles Mowry lives in Portland and pursues a wide variety of interests, acting with his father being one of them..
